Hermanus and the whales

We drove into Hermanus in the afternoon, opened the curtains of the bungalow to look out at the sea, and the first thing we saw was the blow-hole of a Southern Right Whale right in front of us! The whales come every year around September and stay for a couple of weeks, sometimes months, swimming around the bay and playing in the surf.

Christel also found some time to try out a few new songs, with excellent success!

The beaches and cliffs around Hermanus had different paths and look out points, so in the afternoons we wandered along them, taking in the scenery and trying to get some good photos of whales either jumping or surfacing - Not an easy task.

It was a lovely and relaxed stay, and on our second day we got the amazing news that our house in Reading had finally been sold. This was supposed to have happened in October before we left the UK, but there were complications with the house that our buyers were selling, which delayed and frustrated the process. Nonetheless, it was a big relief to have finally concluded that chapter, and the next day we went out for a nice long lunch in Hermanus to celebrate.
