Lounging by Lake Titicaca

From Uyuni we flew back to La Paz where we had a day and a bit to explore before going to Lake Titicaca. Our original plan was to cycle down the so called 'Death Road', but after a few enquiries and a weather check, we were advised to skip the ride, as the constant rains meant that the road was even more dangerous than usual. Instead, we walked around in La Paz, booked our bus tickets to Copacabana, and managed to watch England get defeated by Holland at Wembley.

The next day we were up at 04:30 to catch our bus, departure time of which had been moved forward because of an impending strike of some sort that would have blocked the main road out of La Paz. Groggy and grumpy, we boarded the bus and frowned and sulked our way to Copacabana, a small town on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Copacabana wasn't half, or even 1/10th, as glamorous as its Brazilian counterpart, but our amazing little cabana made up for a lot. With stunning views over the lake, hammocks, a wood burning stove and a comfortable bed, were were more than happy to spend two nights there.

The next day, we booked a boat trip to the nearby islands of the Sun and the Moon, the mythical birthplace of the Inca society (if I remember correctly. If not, I apologise to all Inca descendants who subscribe to this blog).

It was unfortunately a bit of a rainy day, so not as enjoyable as could have been, especially as part of the paths on the islands turned into a bit of a mud slide. Nonetheless, it was an interesting day out, which gave us a chance to add to the different types of public and private transportation that we have taken. Christel tried to boost the stats even more by jumping on a donkey, but the poor animal saw through her plan and scurried away.
