Inhassoro

50km north of Vilankulo lies Inhassoro, a sleepy fishing town with a couple of guest houses and lodges aimed at the South African angling fraternities. We looked and phoned around a bit to find a decent place to stay, and ended up in the Billfish lodge, where they gave us a 10 bedroom house. Long live travelling in the low season! The lodge is situated on a clifftop overlooking the Bazaruto Archipelago, and had a lovely pool and viewing deck where you could watch the local fishermen and women bringing in the day's catch.

We tried to arrange another snorkelling trip to Paradise Island, but the downside of low season and being in a less touristy place is that there are less people around to bring down the prices of activities. The rates that we got for a day's snorkelling for the both of us were far higher than in Vilankulo, and in the end we decided not to go. Instead we spent the next day relaxing by the pool, reading the Guardian (long live the Kindle), and visiting an Italian-run hospitality/cooking training centre, complete with Italian restaurant (Estrela do Mar, for those passing by here). In the afternoon we swam in the sea and had dinner overlooking the ocean.

Unfortunately, the highly-praised internet cafe that the Bradt travel guide referred to had already closed down, so it will be a couple of days before this update is posted.
From Inhassoro, we head north, moving away from the coast and towards the centre of Mozambique.
